Luck be a Ladybug

Its still FREEZING outside, but I'm already thinking of spring parties! A great party theme for children or for a baby shower is a Ladybug (or Ladybirds for you folks across the pond). I'm not just saying that because it's the official state bug of Delaware (my home base). Ladybugs are thought to be symbols of good luck in many cultures. I've seen a few items about ladybug themed weddings and bridal showers which is also a cute idea, though I can't find any ladybug tie in other than the theme of luck in love.

We have a number of ladybug invitations on the site but I think this invitation from Sprinkles is the bee's bug's knees. If you're doing a party where there will be a guest or guests of honor, these personalized ladybug plates by fontaine maury would be absolutely perfect and a wonderful keepsake. You could also use these red & white polka dot plates by Caspari to mimic the spots of the ladybug or a toadstool. DIY Astroturf grass place mats (shown here by Caroline Sirand) add some pop to your tabletop. Tie spun cotton millinery mushrooms around your napkins to complete the look.

When it comes to desserts, I'm more of a cupcake gal myself, but I had to showcase this AMAZING cake by Meg&Fred. For favors John & Kira's Ladybug Chocoates are a gorgeous gift and are now available at Williams-Sonoma. If your party is a bit more whimsical, you could opt for a delightfully kitschy lucky ladybug favor from good luck creations (or use them as cute centerpieces).

I hope this fun party theme brightens your day. Putting together this ladybug inspiration board has certainly cheered me up! Must be that lucky ladybug magic...
