My inspiration for this post is the classic children's novel The Secret Garden. It is a book I adored as a little girl and that I think of often. I don't typically fawn over flowers and butterflies aren't a motif I strongly identify with, but I really liked the way all of these items worked together. Perhaps it is the approach of spring and warm weather that is making me feel a bit girlish as of late.
The image that I started with and tried to work around was the Butterfly Wreath from Blueprint. It is light, whimsical and feminine without being sugary sweet. That reminded me of the Crane & Co. Butterfly stationery we carry. Next, I went in search of a cake and found this awesome Butterfly Garden Cake by be cheery.
This originally started out as an idea board for an elegant garden tea party so I wanted to incorporate a nice tea set. I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for but I did scout these lovely vintage floral tea cups on etsy. The tea cups reminded me of a dress by Betsey Johnson for her Spring 08 collection. I love Betsey Johnson's designs so much that I am convinced they should be worn for anything (weddings, tea parties, grocery shopping...).
Etsy is a great place for accessories so I picked out this butterfly art necklace and poppy hair pins. Those poppy hair pins are beautiful, no?
For a centerpiece, I thought the large Perch basket would be just perfect filled with wild flowers. As the party carries into the evening, light things up with a Tord Boontje garland light.
I think this butterfly/garden mood board is well suited for many party themes: bridal shower, baby shower (for a girl, naturally), sweet 16 or quince.
