Casually Chic Chandeliers

Chandeliers aren’t just for stuffy dining rooms and ballroom events anymore. One of the latest party trends is to use chic chandeliers outside the home. Just a touch of elegance can be added to any casual affair with a beautiful chandelier. Perfect for a late afternoon summer soiree, these dangling decorations give off a soft glow when the afternoon light reflects from the crystal. Find unique chandeliers at antique or thrift stores, and hang them from trees in your outdoor space for ambiance. To avoid an overly elegant look, opt for chandeliers of different sizes and shapes. Hang them from different heights with simple rope. Sure to be a conversation piece, chandeliers are the perfect décor decision for your next late afternoon event.

Something Blue For You

Every bride has heard the saying, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and silver sixpence in your shoe.” Have you ever wondered why the saying calls upon brides to carry or wear something blue? Why not pink, or green?

Martha Stewart Weddings says, “Blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the color. Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, "Marry in blue, lover be true."

There are many creative ways to wear or carry “something blue” on your wedding day. Here are a few of my favorites:

Something Blue
Garter -- the garter girl by Julianne Smith, Shoes with bridal party signatures -- Wedding Magic,
Blue crinoline -- blushalicious, Pashmina -- Old Sweet Song, Necklace -- Etsy seller casamoda

For my own wedding day, “something blue” was incorporated with my “something old”. My mother snipped a piece of her own wedding gown and had the married monogram of my groom and I, along with our wedding date, embroidered on it with blue embroidery floss. The embroidered swatch was sewn into my wedding gown.

Do you have a creative or sentimental “something blue” that you’d like to share?

Coastal Maine Luncheon

{Good morning, readers! Today’s post comes from one of FineStationery.com’s Merchandising Specialists, Meredith. Maine holds a special space in Meredith’s heart, so she’ll be sharing a little inspiration for a luncheon styled after the captivating coast. Enjoy!}

Every summer when I was a kid, my parents would drive 12 hours to a teeny tiny town on the coast of Maine called Brooklin. Just down the street from the wooden clapboard general store was my great-grandparent’s farm, affectionately know as “Amen Farm.” I spent much of my time playing along the rocky coastline with my brother, but some of my fondest memories were simply gathering on the back patio to enjoy a summer luncheon as a family.

With a palette of nautical blues and reds, a Maine style luncheon is a great way to gather with friends and family on a lazy summer day.

Although summer is at its peak right now, many brides have their minds on their upcoming autumn weddings. Acorns, an iconic autumn item, can be used in many ways to give your wedding a warm fall feeling.

Party Trend: Dessert Tables

As you might know, dessert tables are quickly becoming the most popular party feature. I have seen so many creative and exquisitely designed dessert tables around the web over the last few months. I have the urge to throw a party just so I can design one myself! Who am I kidding? It’s my love for candy and sweets that is drawing me to these tables as well!

Creating a gorgeous and delicious dessert table is not quite as hard as you may think. I know, I know -- It’s a little intimidating when you see professionally designed tables by event planners like Amy Atlas. Trust me… You too can create a dessert table that is one of a kind, and you can do so with items from local craft, retail and grocery stores! Bride Scouts blog posted a tutorial on designing a dessert table with regular grocery store items. The table {shown below} is beautiful, and looks like a million bucks.

Grocery Store

Other resources for vessels, decorations, candy and desserts include your local baker, gourmet grocery store, bulk candy store, craft stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby, and home stores like Pier One, World Market and The Container Store. Antique and thrift stores are also a great option for unique vessels. The possibilities are endless! It is probably best to stick with a theme or color scheme when designing your dessert table. Make it the focal point of your event, and guests are sure to marvel at your creation before they dive in after the goodies! Make sure you set small bags out for candy. Customize candy bags to fit your theme with personalized stickers -- FineStationery.com has hundreds to choose from!

Say "I Do!" to Sea Coral

For a wedding that pops with bright reds and oranges, consider using stunning sea coral accents. This oceanic theme is perfect for a summer or early fall wedding, and is certainly lively and unique.

Relax! It's a Spa Party

Party planning can be hard work -- but it doesn't have to be with a Spa Party! Host an at-home Spa Party for your closest friends to relax and rejuvenate. The decor should be minimal and the preparation should be incredibly simple. After all, the point is to relax!

A Fine Wedding

I am so excited to share this real wedding with you, not only because it is styled so well, but because the bride and groom are both members of the FineStationery.com family!

Moira and Jason met at FineStationery.com a few years ago, and recently tied the knot in a ceremony at The Delaware Natural History Museum. Moira planned with perfection throughout the couple’s engagement, as she has been working with brides for years now as our Wedding Supervisor. Jason, FineStationery.com's Technical Support Specialist, contributed to the planning in many ways and had the great idea of hosting the wedding ceremony and reception at such a fun venue. Moira and Jason both said that the natural beauty of the museum was their inspiration for the day, and used the rich browns and vibrant greens for the color palette when it came to flowers, the invitations, and decor. Adding to the FineStationery.com fun, our Senior Merchandising Specialist, Jennie, baked the most beautiful and delicious cupcakes and mini cake in lieu of a traditional wedding cake.

Moira and Jason’s wedding was truly a beautiful reflection of the couple’s style and taste. The bride and groom both agree that the vows they wrote and recited to each other were the best part of the whole day. After they danced the night away with family and friends, the blissful newlyweds enjoyed a long trip through Europe for their honeymoon.

Invitation

Moira and Jason Wedding

For the invitations, Moira fell in love with an espresso colored card stock by Crane & Co., and chose eye-catching ecru engraving and a bright green envelope liner. Moira helps brides choose their wedding invitations every day, and has loved this particular style for years (even before Jason came along!)

The cupcakes that a fellow FineStationery.com employee baked for the occasion were offered in delicious flavors, selected by Moira and Jason.

Place cards were set out on small mirror tiles, and held up by multi-colored and sized stones as a nod to natural history.

Instead of numbers, each table was given a name. Since Jason is a huge science buff, the tables were all named after famous scientists.

Gorgeous green and white blooms filled the center of each table, while actual artifacts shared the space. The couple even said their vows in the dinosaur gallery!

Congratulations, Moira and Jason!

A Breakfast at Tiffany's Wedding

I'm feeling a little under the weather today, so I'll probably be putting on one of my favorite movies, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and curling up on the couch. Before doing that, I want to share a Breakfast at Tiffany's themed wedding with you. You will love the sweet New York City inspirations and the venue. Would you consider styling your wedding after a favorite movie? If I were to style a Breakfast at Tiffany's wedding, I know I'd choose this beautiful invitation:
