Tuesday Trends: National Stationery Show Edition

The great thing about the National Stationery Show is that you get a glimpse of what trends are going to be big in Stationery for the 2008 and early 2009 season. I'll be sharing those trends with you over the next few weeks. In the interim, here are three trends that appeared in 2007 that are still going strong in '08.

It's no secret that letterpress has a rabid fan base. The popularity of this printing technique shows no signs of slowing. Many companies have expanded their print capabilities to include letterpress printing and there were tons of new letterpress lines making their big debut at the show.

A carry over from 2007, avian themes remain popular with both stationers and consumers. Retro-inspired owls and the sleek and modern swallow remain the two most popular bird motifs.

I was raised to recycle everything so this is one trend I'm glad to see sticking around. While lines like Crane & Co. have been green for years, many stationery manufacturers have revamped their paper products to include everything from post-consumer content to soy-based inks. There were a number of new stationery lines with an entire focus on environmental consciousness.

That's all for today! I'll see you tomorrow with a Wedding Wednesday post and more Stationery Show highlights!
