Choosing the Perfect Wording for Your Wedding Invitation

Once you’ve selected your wedding invitation ensemble, you might be wondering what exactly should be printed. Your Wedding Specialist can help you with the exact wording, but below is an example of what a traditional wedding invitation would say:

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Owen Larson request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Katherine Marie to Mr. Ethan Luke Wright Saturday, the nineteenth of September Two thousand eleven Half past four o’clock in the afternoon St. Joseph’s Cathedral Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The example above would be used for a church wedding. If your ceremony will be held outdoors, or at a venue other than a church, change line 2 to read, “request the pleasure of your company”. Some couples choose to include the names of the groom’s parents on the invitation. In that case, you would change the groom’s name to read just his first and middle name (ex:  Ethan Luke) and insert a line immediately following that would read, “son of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory John Wright”.
