Personalized party hats are gaining popularity for kid’s birthdays — especially first birthdays! These fun hats make the perfect party accessory, whether they are worn by the guest of honor, or simply set out for display at the party. A special keepsake hat makes a wonderful gift for any little one! When my best friend’s daughter turned one last month, I gathered my craft supplies and created this adorable hat for her — complete with glittered letters that spell out her name!

You can make your own party hat with materials that are easy to obtain at any craft store. I wanted Lily’s hat to be soft, since she is only one, so I constructed the base from thin craft foam. I used {this template}, then punched holes in either side for attaching the ribbon. The ribbon at the top was pushed through the opening at the top of the hat, and secured from the inside. Add accents with craft foam, scrapbook paper, or glittered letters. A hot glue gun works best for adhering these details. Use playful colors and fun shapes!
